A mother conveyed her love to her teenage daughter as she passed away in her embrace after enduring a brutal 24-hour assault from her partner. Shawntae Brown, aged 34, shared her feelings with her then 15-year-old daughter Aleisha just moments before her tragic death due to severe injuries inflicted by her violent partner, Joshua Brown. Brown was recently sentenced to life imprisonment without the chance of parole, five years post the heinous crime.
The 20-year-old daughter of Ms. Brown paid homage to her mother today, reminiscing about her mother’s final moments. She expressed, “She told me she loved me… I somewhat feel selfish for feeling this way, but I find solace in the fact that she passed away in my arms. It brings me some comfort.”
Joshua Brown subjected his partner to a series of violent attacks using various objects, including a belt, a shoe, and a flagpole, over a two-day period in September 2020. He then compelled his three children, including the daughter who spoke to the media this week, to clean up the aftermath at their residence in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Aleisha disclosed that she had noticed signs of her father’s abusive behavior towards her mother over a prolonged period. However, the fatal incident witnessed Brown delivering a prolonged assault that resulted in the victim sustaining bruises and cuts across her body.
In an interview with People, Aleisha reflected, “I look back and realize, okay, I still see signs. I still recall incidents from back then that perhaps I was too young to understand, and my mother was shielding us from. Part of me still believes he was a good father, but then I question how much of that was genuine and how much was my mother trying to paint him in a positive light to me?”
“That night was exceptionally difficult because it was so severe. It was unquestionably the worst one we had witnessed. It was definitely the most challenging one we had endured,” she added.
The assault persisted for 24 hours, following which the father instructed his children to tidy up the room. Upon grasping the severity of the situation, Brown contacted emergency services, but paramedics declared his partner, his high school sweetheart, deceased in front of the children.
Aleisha is currently in her second year at university, majoring in media and communications. She believes her mother would be proud to see her chasing her aspirations.
“I aim to embody her selflessness, love, and zeal. She was simply the best mom, and I could repeat this endlessly, but it’s the truth,” expressed the young woman.
