Nigel Farage is facing calls to denounce one of his fellow MPs who expressed frustration at seeing advertisements predominantly featuring Black and Asian individuals. Sarah Pochin, a member of the Reform UK party, received backlash after stating her discontent with the lack of white representation in TV commercials during an appearance on TalkTV.

During the discussion, a caller named Stuart raised concerns about the portrayal of demographics in advertisements, suggesting it marginalized white people. Pochin echoed this sentiment, emphasizing her annoyance at the prevalence of Black and Asian individuals in ads, asserting that it did not accurately mirror society.

When pressed by the host Peter Cardwell, Pochin reiterated her stance, criticizing what she described as a “woke” influence dominating television content. She argued that the advertising industry had become overly focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), leading to a disconnect with the reality of British society, particularly in regions like Runcorn.

Pochin’s remarks drew condemnation from Anna Turley, Chair of the Labour Party, who called on Farage to clarify his stance on the issue. Turley criticized Pochin for reducing people to their skin color and accused Reform of fostering division rather than unity in the country.

In response to the backlash, Pochin later clarified that her comments were poorly phrased, attributing her frustration to what she perceived as an excessive emphasis on DEI in advertising. She expressed regret for any offense caused and pledged to communicate more accurately in the future.

The controversy surrounding Pochin’s remarks has sparked a debate on race representation in advertising, prompting calls for greater sensitivity and inclusivity in media messaging.
