Nigel Farage is under renewed pressure to take action following a statement from one of his MPs that seemed to equate supporting LGBT rights with endorsing Hamas.
During a Reform UK membership drive on YouTube, former Tory member Danny Kruger drew criticism after suggesting the UK could witness an “LGBT supporting” alliance, a comment described as “beyond the pale” by a Labour MP in the Commons.
In response, Labour’s Peter Swallow emphasized the importance of LGBT rights as a core aspect of British values and expressed concern over Mr. Kruger’s comparison, stating that endorsing LGBT rights should not be equated with supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization known for persecuting LGBT individuals.
Swallow called on fellow MPs to reaffirm the significance of supporting LGBT rights to Mr. Kruger and the Reform party, highlighting the need to uphold these rights as part of British values and parliamentary principles.
Reform has been approached for comment on the matter. Mr. Kruger, son of TV personality Prue Leith, warned of a potential future led by what he described as a “Hamas-supporting, LGBT-supporting nationalist party,” while expressing concerns about the political landscape involving various parties across the UK.
Labour MP Polly Billington criticized Kruger’s remarks, labeling them as divisive and outdated, emphasizing that Reform’s tactics of stirring up division now extended to targeting the LGBT community. She called for condemnation of Kruger’s statements by Nigel Farage.
The situation has sparked debate and calls for clarity on the stance towards LGBT rights within the political arena, with concerns raised about the implications of such comparisons and the need to uphold inclusive values.
