M&S recently unveiled a list of 500 potential locations for future store openings. Last year, the supermarket announced plans to launch or refurbish 20 M&S outlets, leading to the creation of 800 jobs. New stores in Northwich, Abingdon, and Stonehaven are set to open soon.
Additionally, stores in Farnham, Northampton, and Godalming are expected to open in 2026, with the latter being M&S’ largest standalone food store. M&S has already introduced new stores in Cannock and Bath and aims to expand into areas like Hove, Marlborough, and Wallingford where it currently has no presence.
M&S is actively seeking sites across the UK capable of accommodating trading spaces of 18,000sqft (25,000sqft gross). Alex Freudmann, Managing Director of M&S Food, expressed confidence in exploring new locations nationwide, emphasizing the company’s commitment to delivering the best shopping experience for customers.
Following a successful holiday season, M&S reported a 5.6% growth in food sales but a 2.9% decline in fashion, home, and beauty sales compared to the previous year. The company attributed lower in-store spending to reduced high street foot traffic and lingering effects of a cyber attack that disrupted its operations.
Despite challenges, M&S remains focused on reshaping its business for growth in an uncertain consumer landscape. The retailer aims to enhance store experiences, reduce costs, and drive strategic transformation moving forward.
