A tragic incident occurred in Brooklyn on Saturday night as a New York City firefighter, Patrick Brady, lost his life while fighting a massive fire at 9407 Kings Highway in East Flatbush. Brady, a seasoned 11-year veteran of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), suffered a cardiac arrest on the rooftop of the burning building following an urgent response to residents’ reports of a fire on the sixth floor.

Upon arrival, fellow firefighters and emergency personnel promptly attended to Brady before he was swiftly transported to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, as confirmed by the FDNY. Additionally, a second firefighter and two civilians sustained minor injuries during the incident.

In response to the tragic event, Mayor Eric Adams commended Brady’s bravery, emphasizing the courage and sacrifice exhibited by firefighters who risk their lives for others. Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady, highlighting his dedication to public service and his inherent commitment to firefighting.

The loss of Brady marks the second FDNY member to have tragically passed away in the line of duty within the past two weeks, as shared by FDNY First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra during a press briefing. Brady is survived by his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who also serve as FDNY firefighters.

The entire FDNY community mourns the loss of a true hero in Firefighter Patrick Brady, whose unwavering courage and dedication will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and colleagues.
