Three-time Olympian Michelle Plouffe has made a comeback from retirement to join Canada’s four-member team for the upcoming FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series event in Bangkok, Thailand. Alongside her twin sister Katherine Plouffe, Cassandra Brown, and Paige Crozon, the 33-year-old Plouffe is set to compete in the tournament commencing this Saturday.
Canada currently holds the 10th position in the women’s series standings as they enter the final phase of the regular season. Securing a spot in the women’s series final in Shanghai on September 5-6 is crucial, with the top seven teams and host China moving forward. Therefore, the Bangkok tournament serves as one of Canada’s last chances to accumulate vital qualification points.
Steve Baur, the vice-president and general manager of Canada Basketball’s women’s high performance program, expressed that Michelle Plouffe was a strategic addition to the team given the standings and the push towards Shanghai. Plouffe’s close ties with the team and her experience were key factors in her return to competitive play at this critical juncture.
Having retired on July 28, 2025, to transition into her role as Canada Basketball’s 3×3 performance manager, Michelle Plouffe boasts an impressive record, leading Canada to multiple FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series titles, a silver medal at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 World Cup, and a fourth-place finish at the Paris Olympics.
