A school teacher was physically assaulted by a parent in the presence of students after instructing a student to refrain from using a mobile phone at a school in Brazil. The incident occurred at the Guara Education Centre 4 in the Federal District. The 53-year-old teacher advised the student to focus on the lesson instead of using the phone, prompting the student to contact her father, Thiago Lenin Sousa, who arrived at the school and attacked the teacher.

Video footage from the school’s cameras captured Sousa entering the classroom and striking the teacher nine times in the head. Colleagues intervened to stop the assault, with the teacher attempting to protect themselves. Three students witnessed the altercation. Sousa was subsequently arrested and charged with making threats and assault, but later released on bail.

In a statement to authorities, the teacher explained that she had directed the student not to use the phone, leading to the confrontation with the parent. The community expressed concerns about school safety and the use of smartphones following the incident. The state’s education department announced an investigation into the matter, condemning violence in schools and emphasizing the importance of a secure and respectful learning environment.

The incident sparked discussions on social media in Brazil, with some questioning the presence of phones in schools. Individuals expressed dismay at the parent’s behavior, highlighting the potential impact on teacher authority and the educational system.
