A passenger is said to have fallen off a cruise ship with British tourists onboard. Vacationers aboard the Norwegian Jewel, en route from Barcelona to Miami, were awoken at 2 am by the sound of “code Oscar starboard” over the ship’s speakers, a distress signal indicating a person overboard. A passenger stated that crew members confirmed the incident, and the cruise ship is currently engaged in search and rescue operations, circling the Atlantic Ocean.
The Norwegian cruise ship departed from Barcelona on October 15, 2025. An unidentified British passenger recounted, “I was sleeping in my cabin when the captain made an announcement about ‘code Oscar starboard.’ This message was also broadcasted in our rooms. I quickly researched and learned that ‘Oscar’ signifies a person overboard. Shortly after, we were informed that someone had fallen overboard, prompting the ongoing circling of the ship.”
Efforts have been made to reach out to Norwegian Cruise Line for a statement.
