During the latest Prime Minister’s Questions following the summer recess, Keir Starmer criticized Kemi Badenoch in a heated exchange. The Prime Minister strongly refuted the Tories’ claim that the Labour government are “firefighters,” countering that they are indeed tackling the challenges presented.

In another part of the session, Starmer accused the Reform UK leader of undermining the country by lobbying the Americans for sanctions that could harm British working people. The PM expressed pride in sitting alongside Angela Rayner, supporting her decision to refer herself to the independent adviser on ministerial standards regarding tax issues.

Badenoch raised concerns about Rayner’s tax discrepancies and questioned her resignation, prompting the PM to defend Rayner’s contributions to housing and workers’ rights. Rayner acknowledged the tax error on her second home and spoke about considering resignation.

The session also addressed various topics such as flags on public buildings, Graham Lineham’s arrest, Ukraine-Russia issues, oil and gas licenses, and the demonization of asylum seekers post-Brexit. The PM emphasized the importance of values and international cooperation while addressing these concerns raised by different MPs.

Overall, the PM highlighted economic growth, record investments, and policy achievements amid criticisms from opposition MPs. The session also touched on potential election outcomes and Nigel Farage’s absence from parliamentary duties due to his activities in the US. The PM’s responses reflected a focus on national interests, values, and policy accomplishments amidst the diverse range of questions and criticisms raised during PMQs.
