An individual who was being considered to lead the investigation into grooming gangs has withdrawn, criticizing Kemi Badenoch for politicizing the inquiry and using victims for political gain. This development follows Keir Starmer’s assurance that the investigation would remain thorough despite four survivors leaving due to lack of faith in the process.

Recent events have shaken the Government as four survivors of appalling abuse stepped down, expressing doubts about the process. Another candidate to head the inquiry, former police officer Jim Gamble, also withdrew, condemning politicians for prioritizing personal or political agendas.

During a session of PMQs, Kemi Badenoch highlighted the concerns of Fiona Goddard, one of the survivors, questioning the purpose of speaking out if they are not believed. Goddard and another survivor, Ellie-Ann Reynolds, resigned from the victims and survivors liaison panel.

In an interview with Times Radio, Jim Gamble expressed disappointment with how Badenoch and others engaged in the process, accusing them of using victims’ voices to attack ministers. He suggested a transparent selection process for the inquiry chair via public interviews in front of a Parliamentary committee.

Gamble called for unity among politicians from all parties to chart a way forward, urging them to avoid using victims for political gain. He emphasized the need for prompt action to prevent further suffering among young people similar to the current group of victims and survivors.
