Nigel Farage is under pressure to address his silence following a statement by a Reform MP criticizing advertisements featuring Black and Asian individuals. Anna Turley, the Labour Party chair, has written to Farage, questioning his lack of response to Sarah Pochin’s remarks. Pochin, an MP for Runcorn and Helsby, expressed frustration with non-white representation in TV ads during a Talk TV segment.
Turley condemned Pochin’s comments as racist and urged Farage to take action by removing Pochin from Reform UK. Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Deputy PM David Lammy also criticized Pochin’s remarks, labeling them as disgraceful and racist.
Pochin later apologized for any offense caused but maintained her stance that TV ads do not reflect British society accurately. Streeting accused her of insincerity and criticized her lack of remorse.
Lammy emphasized the importance of inclusivity and denounced Pochin’s comments as unacceptable. He called on Farage to take decisive action in response to the situation. The Mirror has reached out to Reform UK for a statement.
In a letter addressed to Nigel Farage, Turley highlighted the need for clarity on Reform’s stance regarding Pochin’s remarks. She reiterated the view that Pochin’s comments were discriminatory and called for immediate action to be taken.
Turley, representing the Labour Party, awaits an urgent response from Farage regarding the matter.
