Racing legend Rachael Blackmore, who recently retired from the sport, is expecting her first child with fellow jockey Brian Hayes. The couple, who got married in a cozy ceremony in West Cork on January 5 after a decade-long relationship, shared the happy news on Rachael’s Instagram. In the post, she showcased her Volvo car with a baby pram in the boot, indicating the upcoming addition to their family.

During her illustrious career, Rachael, known for her groundbreaking achievements in horse racing, notably became the first female jockey to win the Grand National and secure the leading jockey title at Cheltenham. The Tipperary-born rider accumulated an impressive 575 wins throughout her professional racing journey.

Having retired in May last year, Rachael achieved significant milestones in 2021, including victories at the Cheltenham Festival and other prestigious races. Her exceptional performances led to accolades such as the World Sports Star at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Additionally, she was honored as the greatest female jump jockey of all time by being inducted into the hall of fame at Cheltenham racecourse.

Rachael and Brian, who have been friends for over ten years, met during the early stages of their racing careers in Co Carlow. Despite both being jockeys, they rarely discuss racing in their domestic life. Rachael has credited Brian for his crucial role in her career, acknowledging his significant impact.

The couple, often seen together at various events and outings, have a shared history, including living together with their mutual friend Patrick Mullins. Brian, a respected jockey with a Cheltenham Festival win under his belt, has ridden for esteemed figures like Willie Mullins.
