Renowned television personality Paul O’Grady confided in close acquaintances about his concerns regarding his health and mortality in the months leading up to his unexpected passing.

His colleague, Malcolm Prince, shared insights about Paul in his latest book titled “Paul O’Grady – Not The Same Without You,” serialized by the Daily and Sunday Mirror. The book includes revealing accounts from Paul’s inner circle, such as his longtime friend Moira Stewart, who recounted a poignant conversation where Paul expressed a sense of impending departure during a car ride.

Malcolm recalled a conversation with Paul where the star hinted at his mortality, stating, “I won’t make old bones, Malcolm.” Even in the final months before his demise, Paul humorously reflected on his age and speculated about a sooner-than-expected exit.

During their last meeting at Paul’s residence on the day of his passing, Paul mentioned revising his will, leaving a lasting impression on Malcolm. Additionally, Malcolm disclosed that Paul declined an implantable defibrillator despite its potential to save his life, as he prioritized fulfilling commitments such as a musical and a dog show.

Paul, who had a history of heart issues, tragically succumbed to a sudden cardiac arrhythmia on March 28, 2023. Despite discussions with his manager and close friend Joan Marshrons about the pacemaker procedure, Paul adamantly opted against it due to concerns about losing control and potential embarrassment in public settings.

Malcolm’s book offers an intimate look into Paul O’Grady’s final months, shedding light on his unwavering commitment to his work and reluctance to burden others with his health struggles.
