Users of various devices, including Samsung models, are encountering screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app. Some individuals have reported instances where text disappears, while others see only blank white boxes instead of their email content.
Frustrated users have taken to social media to express their grievances. One user named Jeremiah voiced his concerns on X, addressing Gmail directly about the ongoing flickering problem on his Samsung Fold device, emphasizing the inconvenience it has caused.
Similar complaints have surfaced on Google’s support forums, with one user detailing the difficulties faced when trying to read emails due to the persistent screen flickering. Despite attempts to resolve the issue by force-stopping the app, clearing the cache, and updating the tablet, the problem persists.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, has identified the root cause as a potential issue with Android System WebView, a crucial component that enables apps to display web content internally. Kitani noted that certain devices, particularly Samsung tablets, are experiencing intermittent problems related to Android System WebView, and the matter has been escalated to Google for further investigation.
Although the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold series and specific Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted devices.
As a temporary solution, Kitani suggests rotating the device as a workaround to alleviate the screen flickering. By opening the email in portrait mode, rotating the device to landscape mode until the display stabilizes, and then returning to portrait mode, users may temporarily address the issue while awaiting a permanent fix from Google.
