After being ordered to repay a substantial amount of money due to questionable dealings with PPE, a company associated with Michelle Mone offered a small consolation to affected families. However, the situation escalated when it was revealed that a company linked to her husband, Douglas Barrowman, had purchased a luxurious $10 million property in Florida.

Barrowman Group’s subsidiary acquired a four-bedroom property on Fisher Island, also known as “Billionaire Island,” in July. This purchase occurred before the High Court instructed PPE Medpro, a company owned by a group led by Mone’s husband, to return funds received from the government for defective surgical gowns.

PPE Medpro went into administration on the same day as the court ruling and missed the deadline to repay the amount owed.

Deborah Doyle, who lost her mother in a care home amid the pandemic, expressed outrage at the news of the extravagant property purchase. She criticized the lack of repayment, emphasizing the potential impact on the struggling healthcare system.

A group representing Covid-19 bereaved families condemned the property acquisition while substantial debts remained unpaid. They called for repercussions against Mone, suggesting she should be stripped of her titles due to the alleged misconduct.

Secluded on Fisher Island, the purchased property is undergoing renovations. The Department for Health and Social Care pursued legal action against PPE Medpro for supplying faulty gowns during the health crisis, vowing to recover the misappropriated funds.

The controversy surrounding Mone’s involvement in recommending PPE Medpro for government contracts and the subsequent legal challenges has sparked public outcry. Despite denying any wrongdoing, Mone and Barrowman have faced severe criticism over the handling of the PPE issue.

A spokesperson for the consortium expressed willingness to engage in discussions with the government to resolve the matter but expressed disappointment at the lack of response from government authorities.

Overall, the situation has raised concerns about accountability, transparency, and ethical standards in business dealings, especially in critical sectors such as healthcare procurement.
