Sky Q, known for its exceptional features, is a highly acclaimed set-top box. This device, renowned for its live TV recording capability and access to premium channels, on-demand content, and popular streaming apps like Disney+ and Netflix, has garnered immense popularity. Despite its success, Sky seems to be shifting focus from its satellite-based platform to internet-based products such as the Sky Stream box and Sky Glass TV. This transition may pave the way for a new competitor to enter the market for those who prefer physical recordings.

Humax has introduced the Aura EZ 4K TV Recorder, a new device that closely resembles Sky Q in terms of functionality. Similar to Sky’s flagship box, it features a built-in 2TB hard drive for storing a vast amount of TV shows, movies, and sports content. The inclusion of internal storage in a time where physical recording options are dwindling makes this device noteworthy.

Apart from aerial recordings, the Aura EZ is powered by Freely, allowing users to watch live TV over broadband. Developed by the team behind Freeview, Freely offers over 60 live channels and a wide array of on-demand programs. This setup facilitates easy relocation of the box between rooms, straightforward installation, and regular feature updates.

Highlighted features of the Aura EZ include 4K HDR picture quality, Dolby Digital Plus audio, and an integrated TV guide displaying current and upcoming programs. Users can manage the box remotely through the Humax Aura EZ smartphone app, enabling them to browse schedules and handle recordings from any location.

While Freely may not match Sky’s premium sports and movie offerings, it stands out for being free to use, without any subscription fees.

The Humax Aura EZ is scheduled to launch in the UK in February 2026, with a recommended retail price of £249.

In another development, Sky has announced a new subscription bundle that combines major streaming services at a reduced monthly cost. Priced at £24 per month, customers will gain access to Disney+, Netflix, Hayu, and the upcoming HBO Max.

Sky touts the bundle as a value proposition, consolidating multiple streaming platforms under one subscription. Subscribers to the Ultimate TV plan will also receive over 130 premium channels, including Sky Comedy, Sky Documentaries, Sky Crime, and Sky History.

Furthermore, Sky Cinema customers will benefit from a new Disney movie channel integrated into the TV guide.

The £24 bundle includes:

– Netflix Standard with Ads
– Disney+ Standard with Ads (starting March)
– HBO Max Basic with Ads (starting March 26)
– Hayu (starting July, with select content available from March)
– Over 130 Sky channels
