The Davis Cup final’s second singles match came to an abrupt stop when a spectator fell ill in the stands. Flavio Cobolli of Italy was in the middle of trying to break Jaume Munar’s serve when he noticed the situation with the fan.

Munar had taken the lead by winning the first set 6-1 and was ahead in the second set when Cobolli had a chance to break back. The match was paused as medical assistance was summoned to the stands, and both players headed to their respective benches.

Commentator Arvind Parmar commended Cobolli for his swift response, acknowledging the crowd’s quick reaction to the incident. During the break, umpire Marijana Veljovic interacted with the players, and Italian captain Filippo Volandri offered guidance to Cobolli.

As the spectator was being escorted out, Parmar noted the potential delay in the game due to the situation. SuperTennis Arena co-commentator Nick Leicester provided updates on the fan’s condition, mentioning the presence of medics and wishing the individual well.

Following a delay of approximately ten minutes, Cobolli managed to break Munar’s serve and evened the score in the second set at 1-1. Italy had a 1-0 lead from Matteo Berrettini’s victory over Pablo Carreno Busta, aiming to secure their third consecutive tournament win, a feat not achieved since the USA’s five consecutive titles in 1972.

However, a victory for Munar would force a decisive doubles round in the competition. Both Italy and Spain were missing key players, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who withdrew before the final commenced.
