Keir Starmer has expressed concerns about a Russian-backed attack on a warehouse in London, highlighting the threat posed by Vladimir Putin’s regime to the UK. Standing alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Starmer condemned the recent sentencing of six individuals involved in the arson attack, emphasizing that the warehouse targeted was storing humanitarian aid and satellite equipment intended for Ukraine. He underscored the need to address such hostile activities, emphasizing the interconnectedness of security among nations.

Accusing Vladimir Putin of prolonging the conflict in Ukraine, Starmer criticized the Russian leader for targeting civilians and essential infrastructure. He cited tragic casualties, including a 12-year-old girl and a six-month-old baby, as a result of Putin’s actions. The orchestrated arson, carried out by the Wagner paramilitary group on behalf of the Russian state, was deemed part of a wider campaign of terrorism and sabotage. The mastermind behind the attack, Dylan Earl, received a 17-year prison sentence for causing significant damage to the warehouse, impacting a Ukrainian couple’s business of supplying Starlink satellite communication devices to Ukraine.

In a joint effort with allies, Zelensky urged against concessions that could embolden Russia in the conflict, emphasizing the need for a just and equitable resolution. Starmer echoed the sentiment, rejecting Putin’s unreasonable demands and emphasizing the unity of the international coalition in supporting Ukraine. The Prime Minister highlighted the unwavering support of over 30 nations and emphasized the collective commitment to ending the violence and securing lasting peace.

During a virtual meeting with key leaders, Starmer reiterated the coalition’s resolve in the face of Putin’s obstructionist tactics and unreasonable demands for Ukrainian territory. The group, including Zelensky, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, reaffirmed their solidarity in pursuing a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
