A woman involved in a liposuction procedure in Turkey has passed away after falling into a coma.

Milena Mancini, aged 50, died in the intensive care unit of Istanbul’s ISU Medical Park Gaziosmanpaşa hospital, 20 days post her weight loss surgery at a private clinic.

Having traveled to Turkey in September with one of her daughters from Italy, complications arose about 36 hours after the operation, leading to severe abdominal pain. The surgery reportedly resulted in a perforated intestine and subsequent infection.

According to her uncle Luigi Di Palma, a complication during the surgery led to an infection at the clinic.

Her family was unaware of the surgery until she was admitted to intensive care, prompting some to fly to Turkey to support her.

Her condition worsened, and she remained in a coma until her passing. A post-mortem examination will be conducted in Italy upon her repatriation.

Milena, from Isola del Liri, a town southeast of Rome, managed an estate agency following a career as a financial consultant. Prior to her unfortunate trip, her company had recently opened a new branch in Frosinone.

She leaves behind her husband Umberto, daughters Alice and Juditta, father Alvaro, and sisters Rita and Sara. Luigi described her as a determined, capable woman who had a warm and cheerful personality, getting along well with everyone.

In a separate incident in July, a British woman named Ruby Khan, 30, tragically died following liposuction and tummy tuck surgeries in Turkey.

Ruby underwent the procedures at Medical Point International Hospital in Izmir, where complications arose post-surgery, resulting in her passing a day later.

A full inquest is scheduled to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death later this year.
