Donald Trump may need to pivot and shift the blame onto Democrats after mishandling the Epstein Files, causing a loss of support among his base who suspect he might be concealing information. President Trump made a notable reversal by announcing his approval of legislation to disclose documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the deceased sex offender. Despite his initial efforts to dissuade Republicans from supporting the release, Trump eventually acquiesced to avoid a potential rebellion.

The bill to unveil the files easily passed in Congress, and Trump signed it into law, with the documents slated for release within the next month. Trump’s interference has significantly eroded his backing from the voters who propelled him back to the White House in the previous election, potentially prompting him to use this setback as an opportunity to attack his Democratic opponents.

Robbin Mellen Jr, a professor specializing in the presidency at the University of South Florida, noted that Trump’s handling of the Epstein Files led to a decline in support but could offer him a chance for redemption. He emphasized that while Trump may have lost some backing, he could leverage the file release to shift focus onto his political rivals, especially if the documents turn out to be inconsequential.

Before the last election, Trump pledged to release the Epstein Files and accused Democrats of hiding incriminating information about their party members. However, upon his return to office, Trump caused confusion among his supporters by clashing with Republicans advocating for the documents’ release.

A recent poll by Marquette University Law School revealed that nearly three-quarters of Americans disapproved of Trump’s approach to the Epstein files. The survey conducted between November 5 and 12 indicated that 74% of the 1,052 American adults believed the president mishandled the situation.

Although Trump possessed the authority to order the release of the Epstein Files, he refrained from doing so despite his eagerness to make other documents public, such as those related to the JFK assassination. The anticipated release of the Epstein Files is expected to uncover additional connections between the convicted sex trafficker and influential figures worldwide.
