The cost of a TV licence is increasing once more, but if you no longer require one, you may be eligible for a refund.
Currently priced at £174.50 annually, the TV licence fee will rise to £180 starting in April. A TV licence is mandatory for watching or recording live television, as well as for viewing any content – live or catch-up – on BBC iPlayer.
If you solely watch catch-up shows on streaming platforms other than BBC iPlayer, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, YouTube, All 4, or My5, a TV licence is not necessary.
However, if you access live programs through these services, a TV licence is required. Failure to have a TV licence while watching such content may result in a fine of up to £1,000.
In case you no longer need your TV licence before its expiration date, you may be entitled to a refund if there is at least one month remaining on it. Additionally, eligibility for an over 75 or blind concession can also qualify you for a refund.
Remember to adhere to the TV licensing regulations to avoid potential fines.
