Three in 10 individuals in the UK are more knowledgeable about Donald Trump than Prince Charles, as per a recent study. A survey of 2,000 adults indicated that 30% are equally well-versed in American pop culture as they are in their own. The study revealed that 40% of the content they consume daily originates from the US, with 23% showing a preference for Taylor Swift’s music over Dua Lipa’s.
Furthermore, close to 10% have more information about the romantic lives of actors Zendaya and Tom Holland than about the Royal family – this percentage jumps to 29% among those aged 18 to 24. Additionally, a significant 34% of this younger age group possess more knowledge about the Kardashians than EastEnders.
A representative from Lottoland.co.uk, the entity that commissioned the survey to coincide with its US £520 million Powerball draw, remarked, “There is an abundance of captivating US culture readily available for us to engage with.”
“From television, movies, and music to cuisine, the US offers a plethora of elements that have made their way to the UK. Even discussions about politics are common,” they added.
The research also unveiled that 18% watch more American television than British programs, with drama, comedy, and crime ranking as the preferred genres from the US.
Regarding music from the States, pop, rock, and country genres dominate with 88% claiming to appreciate some form of American culture in their British lifestyle.
Apart from television and music, Americans enjoy American cuisine (37%), literature (24%), and sports (17%). Moreover, 15% partake in Thanksgiving celebrations in the UK, and one in 10 observe Independence Day on July 4th.
Moreover, it was revealed that Netflix, Hollywood blockbusters, and Coca-Cola are the top-rated American exports, closely followed by Rock and Roll, Disneyland, and instant coffee.
