Energy customers in the UK may benefit from various support schemes this winter, with some major energy suppliers offering assistance such as free items like electric blankets and grants to help with bills. While these initiatives are primarily tailored to each supplier’s customers, some may be accessible to customers from different providers under specific conditions. However, not all schemes will be universally available.

To ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable individuals, some suppliers are implementing strict eligibility criteria. Leading energy suppliers like British Gas, OVO, Octopus, and EDF are introducing a range of support programs. For instance, the British Gas Energy Trust, supported by British Gas, provides assistance to households with energy debt up to £1,700, irrespective of their energy account type.

The Individual and Families Fund under the British Gas Energy Trust extends its support to non-British Gas customers as well, including those from various other suppliers. To access these funds, interested individuals can create an account online and apply through the trust’s website. British Gas customers can also benefit from the Energy Support Fund, offering relief for energy debts ranging from £50 to £2,000.

EDF is running its Winter Warmer Shop, providing electrical goods to vulnerable customers, alongside a substantial Winter Support Package and investments in energy efficiency schemes. Octopus customers with specific vulnerabilities may qualify for a free electric blanket, with the company emphasizing support for the most vulnerable customers.

OVO has launched an Extra Support Package, offering products like smart sockets and heated throws to eligible customers. Interested individuals can check their eligibility on OVO’s website. These initiatives aim to offer crucial support to those in need during the winter season.
