Police at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville have issued an alert regarding a potential ‘active shooter’ on campus today. The alert was prompted by reports of a gun at Shannon Library, although no evidence of an attack was found by officers.

Normal campus activities are set to resume as officials confirm the absence of any threat. An investigation into the false report is now underway. The University of Virginia has given the ‘all clear’ following the earlier reports of a possible shooter on campus.

Law enforcement agencies in Charlottesville are supporting campus police in their inquiries, according to Kyle Ervin, a spokesperson for the city. The ‘run-hide-fight’ protocol, designed to guide individuals on surviving active shooter situations, is being followed at the scene.

Police continue to investigate at Shannon Library even after confirming no active attacker presence. An emergency alert had previously warned of an ‘active attacker’ with a gun near the library, but no substantiating evidence has been discovered yet.

The safety and security department at the University of Virginia advised students and staff to adhere to safety protocols despite the absence of any active threat. Brian Coy, a university spokesperson, mentioned that the investigation is ongoing with no current evidence of an attack.

In response to reports of a gun near Shannon Library, Charlottesville police indicated an ‘active attacker’ situation at the University of Virginia. Email updates on major developments are available for those interested.
