Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband package to a new all-time low. The company has launched an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.
The Gig1 plan offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, customers can now avail of this high-speed internet service for just £26.99 per month. This discount results in savings of £72 over the 24-month contract, averaging around 87p per day.
According to Virgin Media, this promotion marks the lowest price ever offered for the Gig1 package. With these blazing-fast speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
Although the discounted rate is attractive, Virgin has disclosed that the £26.99 monthly fee will increase twice during the contract period, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Furthermore, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all areas, so potential customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.
In comparison to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal stands out as a cost-effective option. While Sky has reduced its 900Mbps plan to £28, it remains pricier than Virgin and offers slower speeds. BT, on the other hand, charges £37.99 for access to its 900Mbps connection. It may be worth exploring alternative network providers, as some smaller providers offer competitive pricing.
Community Fibre is currently offering 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this offer is limited to London and select south-east locations.
When choosing a broadband plan, it’s essential to consider individual needs. For casual streaming and normal usage, speeds around 100Mbps may suffice, while larger households with heavy internet usage may require speeds of at least 300Mbps.
