Vodafone has introduced a new method for internet access that differs from traditional copper or fiber connections. Their latest Wi-Fi router operates on a 5G mobile signal, allowing users to download files and stream movies without the need for physical cables.

This innovative approach is particularly beneficial for households without access to faster full-fiber connections or for individuals seeking flexibility. The portable nature of the device makes it suitable for renters and students who frequently move residences.

One of the key advantages of this router is its simple installation process. Since it operates on Vodafone’s network, there is no requirement for professional installation or wall drilling. Users can easily plug it in, power it up, and immediately connect to the internet.

It’s important to note that while this 5G system provides speeds of up to 150Mbps, it may not match the speeds offered by full-fiber connections exceeding 900Mbps. For tasks like streaming Netflix, sending emails, and working from home, the 150Mbps speed is sufficient. Downloading a full HD movie using this 5G router takes approximately 8 minutes, compared to just 40 seconds with a fiber gigabit connection.

To assist consumers in choosing the most suitable connection, Vodafone has launched an integrated availability checker on their website. By entering their postcode, customers can determine whether full-fiber or 5G Broadband will deliver the fastest speeds in their area.

Vodafone’s previous GigaCube device has been replaced by this new 5G router, offering an improved internet access option. According to Rob Winterschladen, Vodafone’s Consumer Director, the 5G Broadband service aims to provide fast and reliable internet to households currently facing slow and unreliable connections.

Additionally, Three, now a part of Vodafone, offers a similar service to customers. Vodafone’s pricing for these plans starts at £21 per month, while Three’s home broadband is currently priced at £11 for the first nine months.
