Eastern Airways, a UK airline, is facing imminent administration, leading to the cancellation of its flights. The company has initiated the process to appoint an administrator, indicating its impending entry into administration. This step triggers a temporary freeze preventing creditors from taking legal actions against the airline for ten days. The Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed the suspension of Eastern Airways’ operations.

Established in 1997, Eastern Airways operates flights to various domestic airports in the UK, such as Aberdeen, Humberside, London Gatwick, Newquay, Teesside International, and Wick. Previously, the airline also served international destinations like Paris, France, catering to approximately 1.3 million passengers annually. The Civil Aviation Authority’s Consumer & Markets Director, Selina Chadha, advised passengers against going to the airport for Eastern Airways flights and recommended visiting the authority’s website for updates.

In case your booking is part of a packaged holiday, the holiday provider will arrange an alternative flight or provide a full refund. For non-packaged holiday bookings, individuals may need to secure a new flight if their trip gets canceled. Travel insurance covering scheduled airline failure or claims through debit or credit card providers could offer recourse in such situations.

Eastern Airways reported a net loss of £19.7 million for the 12 months up to March 2024, with a total debt increase to £25.97 million and a profit decline to £454,000, down from £1.55 million the previous year. This development follows the recent collapse of budget Icelandic airline Fly PLAY into administration, resulting in the immediate cancellation of all its flights.

Moreover, Usher Travel Worldchoice, an independent travel agent, ceased its operations earlier this month. Gavin Morton, a long-term director, expressed profound sadness over the decision to shut down the business. Several other travel entities like Balkan Holidays Ltd, Jetline Travel, and Great Little Escapes LLP have also closed their operations this year.
