Anthony Joshua narrowly avoided a tragic fate by changing seats just moments before a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends. The incident occurred during a journey in which Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized. The driver of the vehicle has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, with claims that the brakes malfunctioned.
According to Joshua’s lawyer, the boxer initially occupied the front seat but was asked to switch with another passenger due to visibility issues. The driver reportedly asserted that the brakes failed, leading to the accident. The driver, identified as Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with multiple offenses related to the incident.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the charges against Kayode and stated that the case has been adjourned to a later date. Joshua, who was vacationing in Nigeria following a recent victory in Miami, lost two longtime friends in the tragic accident. The boxing community, including prominent figures like Eddie Hearn and Tony Bellew, expressed condolences for the loss.
After being discharged from the hospital, Joshua, accompanied by his mother, paid respects to his friends at a funeral home in Lagos. He is currently resting at home, with no public statement issued regarding the accident. The repatriation of the deceased individuals is scheduled for a later time.
