A mother has described her ordeal as “every parent’s worst nightmare” after she set up CCTV at her residence and captured a pedophile abusing her daughter. Gary Lewin has been sentenced to 13 years behind bars for manipulating and exploiting the teenage victim. The victim’s mother expressed that he had “stolen her daughter’s innocence.” Leeds Crown Court heard that Lewin, aged 42, showered the girl with gifts like a PlayStation 5, an iPhone, and jewelry, later providing her with alcohol and cannabis and committing sexual assaults.
Lewin, who had previously confessed to a range of sex offenses, including engaging in sexual activities with a minor and encouraging a minor to participate in sexual acts, made a virtual appearance from prison for his sentencing. Prosecutor Leila Taleb informed the court that the misconduct began in 2024 after Lewin’s release from prison. He bombarded the girl with numerous messages that resembled a romantic relationship.
Taleb stated, “When their relationship began, she stopped attending school. During their time together, he gave her an iPhone Pro Max and displayed affection in public, which made her uncomfortable.” The court was informed that Lewin started with kisses and progressed to sexual activities. The girl disclosed the abuse to a family member in February, leading to police involvement. The mother, having suspicions, installed cameras in the house, capturing an incident.
The mother, displaying bravery, confronted Lewin during his prison video appearance. In a victim impact statement, she described the trauma endured by her daughter and herself. Lewin was sentenced to a 13-year extended term, comprising 12 years in prison and a one-year extended license period. Additionally, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order barring contact with the victim, along with mandatory registration on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
