A well-known hotel and restaurant abruptly shut down after operating for 46 years, causing distress among its patrons. Guys Thatched Hamlet, situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire off the A6, has officially closed its doors. The establishment, with 65 rooms and a picturesque location by the canal on St Michael’s Road, has terminated all its employees.

A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel’s entrance, signaling the end of its operations. The expansive 14-acre site encompassed a tavern, restaurant, sports pavilion, function rooms, cricket ground, bowling green, and three parking areas. The Lancashire Post reported that the closure announcement posted at the site stated, “After 46 years of trading, we can confirm Guy’s Thatched Hamlet has now closed. This decision was made after careful consideration, and we express our gratitude to our loyal customers, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering support over the years.”

Heartbroken customers have taken to social media to express their dismay at the news. One reminisced, “This is where my husband proposed to me in 2012,” while another lamented, “I got engaged here in 2015. Such a pity.” A third individual shared, “I frequented Guys for years and even proposed to my partner in the restaurant, receiving applause from fellow diners. It’s saddening to see it go, and hopefully, someone will preserve its essence.”

The Wilkinson family has managed the business since 1980 and listed it for sale last year, citing a net turnover of approximately £4.2 million. The property, offering 65 en suite bedrooms and attracting both leisure and commercial clientele, is strategically located near the A6, providing easy access to tourist destinations like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland. Recognized for its unique appeal in the North West of England, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet boasted a consistent year-round customer base, with peak seasons bustling with activity.
