Andrew Mountbatten Windsor spent his 66th birthday in police custody, marking a crucial moment for the monarchy. A royal expert emphasized the significance of this event in royal history.

Police officers arrived at Andrew’s Sandringham residence around 8 am and arrested the former duke on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Searches are being conducted in Berkshire and Norfolk. The arrest came as a surprise to Andrew, who had no prior knowledge of spending his birthday in police custody.

The pressure on Andrew intensified after the release of three million pages of undisclosed emails, documents, and images from the Epstein Files in the US. Revelations included emails between Andrew and Epstein, along with a disturbing image. The investigation also uncovered an email from 2010 suggesting Andrew’s involvement in sharing confidential information with Epstein.

Multiple police forces are investigating Andrew’s connections to Epstein. The National Crime Agency is supporting UK police forces in examining information from the Epstein files for an independent evaluation.

Royal expert Afua Acheampong-Hagan stressed the significance of Andrew’s arrest, highlighting the long-awaited nature of these events. She expressed hope for justice for survivors of alleged crimes, urging for a thorough investigation and accountability.

The expert speculated that the royal family might fund Andrew’s legal representation due to his financial constraints. If not, Andrew may rely on a duty solicitor at the police station where he is held.

In response to the situation, King Charles expressed full cooperation with the investigation into his brother. He emphasized that the legal process must proceed fairly and appropriately, refraining from further comments while maintaining commitment to royal duties.

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy underscored the principle that no one is above the law, echoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s earlier statements. Police are conducting searches at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk, potentially seizing electronic devices for further investigation.
