Shoppers were left saddened by the announcement of the permanent closure of a family-owned art and stationery store. Clarkes of Sussex shared the news on social media, stating that the time had come to close its Burgess Hill store in West Sussex after over 40 years of operation. While the exact closing date in April has not been disclosed, loyal customers have been expressing their reactions.

Numerous customers expressed their disappointment, with one stating, “You will be greatly missed. Visiting your shop has always been a pleasure.” Another customer described the news as “very sad.”

In a heartfelt message on social media, Jay Patel, the owner of Clarkes of Sussex, explained the decision to close the Burgess Hill branch. Patel reminisced about the 40 years of serving the community and expressed gratitude for the kindness and loyalty shown by customers over the years. The closure follows the shuttering of the Brighton store last year after 25 years in business. The Lewes location, under different ownership, is set to close in March.

Patel concluded his message by thanking customers for their support and expressing his appreciation for the relationships and memories built over the years. Despite the closure, Patel emphasized that the connections made would always be cherished. He wished customers happiness, good health, and success in the future.
