A tragic incident unfolded at a Christmas tree lighting event in the US, where a 14-year-old boy lost his life in the midst of chaos following a riot involving multiple teenagers being shot. The turmoil began during Chicago’s official Christmas light ceremony when around 300 young individuals disrupted the event and gunshots rang out, leading to a subsequent shooting incident where two individuals were hit by gunfire.
The 14-year-old boy sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, where he tragically passed away from his injuries. Another male victim, aged 18, was also hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in the leg during the same incident. The shootings occurred around 10:40 pm.
Prior to this, at 9:50 pm, a large group gathered near the Chicago Theater, where gunshots were heard, prompting the group to disperse. Police responded swiftly, discovering seven individuals injured by gunfire at the scene.
The victims, all teenagers aged between 13 and 17, were shot in the vicinity of State and Randolph streets. Alderman Hopkins, representing the second ward district, reported that multiple police officers were also assaulted with mace and stun guns, resulting in at least one officer being hospitalized.
