A champion jockey narrowly escaped a life-threatening incident when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan, in 2023, was subjected to a violent attempt to steal her car by a group of unidentified men. The assailants hurled a brick through her car window and struck her in the face with a rock, resulting in a broken nose, a cut lip, and three broken front teeth just three weeks before her wedding day. Despite their swift escape when the alarm was raised, the perpetrators remain at large. Recalling the excruciating experience of being trapped under a half-ton racehorse, Logan described it as the most intense pain she had ever endured.

While riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her husband Tommy, Logan faced a harrowing incident when the horse, spooked by unknown stimuli, reared up, causing her to fall to the ground with the horse falling on top of her, crushing her pelvis. Emergency medical services were promptly summoned, and Logan was transported to Darwin Royal Hospital before being transferred to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of her injuries. Following the incident, she underwent a surgical procedure involving the insertion of screws and a plate to stabilize her pelvic fractures.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Logan expressed gratitude for surviving the traumatic event, emphasizing the intense pain she endured and the fear of potential spinal injuries. Currently recuperating at home with the aid of a walking frame, she anticipates a recovery period of six to eight months, contingent upon the healing process and rehabilitation efforts. Despite the physical and emotional challenges she has faced, Logan remains determined to return to competitive riding, drawing strength from her past achievements and unwavering support system.

In a remarkable display of resilience, Logan overcame post-traumatic struggles, including depression and substance abuse, by immersing herself in competitive bodybuilding, which served as a therapeutic outlet for her mental well-being. Grateful for the unwavering support of her loved ones, particularly her husband, who has been a pillar of strength throughout her recovery journey, Logan remains optimistic about her future in equestrian sports and is determined to overcome the adversity she has encountered.
