Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed that Marc Guehi now has the freedom to choose his next club after his potential move to Liverpool fell through. Guehi, the English defender, was close to joining Anfield before Crystal Palace withdrew from the deal on the deadline day.
Currently, Guehi is expected to depart from Selhurst Park on a free transfer at the end of his contract. Liverpool has been linked with a move for him, along with interest from Bayern Munich.
Discussing Guehi’s future, Steve Parish highlighted that Crystal Palace couldn’t afford to let go of him and emphasized that Guehi now has the opportunity to decide where he wants to go next. He mentioned the intricate analysis done to determine Guehi’s value in the Premier League and the impact of his decision on the team’s dynamics.
Parish acknowledged that it was a tough decision, considering Liverpool’s offer and Guehi’s interest, but ultimately believed it was the right choice to retain him. He stressed the importance of keeping Guehi for the team’s success and stability.
Following the decision to keep Guehi, Crystal Palace has seen a positive start to the season, currently positioned 10th in the Premier League and advancing to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after defeating Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield. In contrast, Liverpool has been struggling, losing six out of their last seven games under Arne Slot.
