Tabby Stoecker experienced a rush of emotions upon winning a gold medal at her debut Winter Olympics in the mixed team skeleton event alongside men’s individual champion Matt Weston. The pair outperformed their previous silver medals from two World Championships, setting a track record of 1:59.36 as Weston overcame a 0.30-second deficit from Stoecker’s run to secure victory by 0.17 seconds.

With this win, Weston became a double Olympic champion, a feat only achieved previously by two-time women’s skeleton winner Lizzy Yarnold. The success added to Team GB’s triumphant Sunday, which saw Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale clinch Britain’s first snowboard cross mixed team gold medal, a historic achievement with two gold medals in a single day, a first for Team GB at any Winter Olympics.

For Stoecker, this victory marked her first major world-level win after joining British Skeleton through the Discover Your Gold talent identification program seven years ago. Overwhelmed with emotion, Stoecker expressed her gratitude to Matt, emphasizing the teamwork that led to their success. Weston, reflecting on the win, credited his confidence from the individual event and emphasized the focus and determination that drove their achievement.

After the medal ceremony, Stoecker shared her joy at achieving her dream of standing on the podium alongside her team, highlighting the bond and unity within the group. Her teammate, Amelia Coltman, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the years of preparation and unique camaraderie that culminated in their success.

Weston emphasized the importance of their victory in inspiring others to seize opportunities and pursue their goals. He encouraged aspiring athletes to embrace every chance that comes their way, aiming to motivate the next generation of athletes to strive for success.
