Lindsey Vonn has emotionally announced her discharge from the hospital after suffering a serious leg injury during the Winter Olympics. Vonn was airlifted to a hospital in Italy following a downhill event at the Games, shortly after a previous ACL injury.

After undergoing multiple surgeries, the skiing icon was released from the Italian hospital to return to the United States for further treatment. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Vonn detailed her injuries, which included compartment syndrome and a broken ankle, praising her surgeon for saving her leg from amputation.

Describing her injuries in a video on Instagram, Vonn explained the complexities of her fracture and the life-threatening nature of compartment syndrome, which was successfully treated by her surgeon’s fasciotomy procedure.

Expressing gratitude for her surgeon’s skill, Vonn remarked on the fortunate timing of her ACL injury, which led to the presence of the surgeon who saved her leg. She described the challenges she faced in the hospital, including low hemoglobin levels necessitating a blood transfusion.

Currently wheelchair-bound due to a broken ankle, Vonn anticipates using crutches in the coming weeks as she embarks on a lengthy rehabilitation journey. She emphasized her commitment to the recovery process, which may involve additional surgeries for complete healing.

In a message accompanying her video, Vonn updated her followers on her progress, expressing relief at leaving the hospital and outlining the upcoming stages of her recovery process. She acknowledged the long road ahead but remained optimistic about her eventual return to full health.
