Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to make a historic attempt this year by aiming to secure two world titles at the Crucible within a month. The renowned 50-year-old snooker player, known for his competitive spirit, will not only compete against current tour players but also face off against seniors in the upcoming World Seniors Snooker Championship. Looking ahead to the spring season, O’Sullivan is determined to claim an unprecedented eighth crown in his 34th consecutive World Championship appearance.

In an exciting development, O’Sullivan will make his debut at the senior tournament in Yorkshire, scheduled to kick off on May 6 and run for five days. The World Seniors Snooker Tour has officially announced O’Sullivan’s participation, emphasizing his status as one of the most commercially successful and captivating figures in the sport. He will be joined by fellow world champions Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, Ken Doherty, and a lineup of other seasoned players including Jimmy White, Matthew Stevens, and Joe Perry, the reigning Seniors British Open Champion.

Jason Francis, the Chairman of the World Seniors Snooker Tour, expressed enthusiasm about O’Sullivan’s debut at the Crucible in May, highlighting the anticipation surrounding his quest for another world title. The rule changes implemented by the World Snooker Tour following the 2025 World Championship now allow professional players aged 45 or older, ranking within the top 64, to compete in the veterans’ circuit.

Currently holding seven world titles, O’Sullivan’s most recent victory in 2022 tied him with Stephen Hendry’s record. Despite a semifinal exit last year, O’Sullivan’s consistent performances have seen him reach the quarterfinals in previous years. Hendry, reflecting on O’Sullivan’s potential eighth title win, has expressed his support, emphasizing the significance of winning a world title at a young age.

In a recent statement on the World Snooker Tour podcast, Hendry acknowledged his pride in holding certain records and indicated his preference for O’Sullivan to secure an eighth title. The snooker community eagerly awaits O’Sullivan’s upcoming campaign, with his participation already driving high ticket demand for the forthcoming event.
