A convicted criminal lashed out at a judge, using offensive language, before being sentenced to 21 years in prison. This incident occurred during the sentencing of a group involved in organized crime, who were collectively handed nearly 50 years in jail for their roles in a heroin and cocaine distribution network led by Scott Howard and Anthony Nelson. The group also employed individuals named Liam Duffy and Terry Riley as key members in their criminal activities.
Prosecutors detailed in court how the drug operations had been active since late 2022, with Riley and Duffy entrusted to manage the phone used for illicit activities. Duffy was apprehended on April 17, 2023, after attempting to evade arrest by discarding an incriminating phone linked to the criminal network.
Additionally, a Skorpion submachine gun linked to the group was found in a flat controlled by a customer named Anthony Bosenquet. This weapon had been used in two shootings in the previous year, one of which resulted in a woman being shot in the leg in Wavertree. The second incident involved shots fired at a residence in Stoneycroft.
Further investigations uncovered DNA evidence tying drug users Gary Bell and Stephen Moore to the firearm. Howard’s involvement in a previous attempt to smuggle contraband into a prison via drone was also revealed.
Howard, with a criminal history comprising 18 convictions for 29 offenses, expressed remorse for his actions and stated his intention to reform upon release. Duffy and Riley, with significant prior court appearances, received prison sentences for their roles in drug distribution. Moore and Bell, also with extensive criminal records, were sentenced for their involvement in possessing a prohibited firearm.
In a courtroom disturbance, spectators reacted to the judge’s sentencing decisions, prompting one individual to hurl insults at the judge before being escorted out of the court.
