Samsung has recently introduced its latest lineup of innovative foldable smartphones, possibly posing a challenge for Apple.

The tech giant from Korea has revealed three new devices, with the spotlight on the brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 8, showcasing a revamped appearance.

Diverging from previous Fold models with a tall cover screen and a square main panel, Samsung has embraced a shorter, wider “passport-style” design. While it may seem unconventional when closed, unfolding it reveals a design that makes perfect sense.

Featuring a spacious 7.6-inch display, the device resembles a compact tablet more than a smartphone, ideal for activities like streaming movies, binge-watching shows, and gaming on the move.

This launch holds significance as Apple is anticipated to introduce its first foldable iPhone later this year, with rumors suggesting a similar radical design choice. If these speculations hold true, Samsung has gained an edge over its major competitor.

Beyond design, Samsung is also leading in other aspects. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the thinnest and lightest Fold yet, weighing a mere 180g. It boasts an enhanced hinge for increased durability and reduced likelihood of damage over time.

Upon unfolding, the expansive display incorporates Vision Booster technology and an anti-reflective coating for improved visibility in bright sunlight.

Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with a 4,800mAh battery that charges from empty to 63% in just 30 minutes, the device ensures efficient performance.

Equipped with a dual-camera system for quality photography and Gorilla Glass for protection against scratches and impacts, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 also includes Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI tools for enhanced photo editing, productivity features, and improved search capabilities.

Priced starting at £1,699, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now open for pre-orders, contrasting with Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, projected to launch later this year at a potentially higher cost exceeding £2,000.

The Fold 8 is not the sole addition to the new lineup. Samsung has also unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling last year’s Fold 7 in appearance but boasting substantial upgrades.

Although the design remains familiar, advancements include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and a significant camera enhancement. The rear camera system now comprises a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera, promising superior low-light photography and 8K video recording.

The Fold 8 Ultra features the new Flex Titanium hinge and an improved display structure for enhanced strength and refinement. Samsung has minimized the notorious crease and introduced a smoother, more natural unfolding mechanism.

With a larger 5,000mAh battery offering extended power and quick charging capabilities, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts from £1,899.

Completing the lineup is the Galaxy Z Flip 8, maintaining Samsung’s popular clamshell design but becoming thinner and lighter than previous versions.

Enhancements to the external cover display, a stronger aluminium hinge, improved performance, and enhanced camera features characterize the Galaxy Z Flip 8, available starting at £1,149.
