Energy costs are expected to decrease starting in April following the recent announcement of a new energy price cap by Ofgem.
As of April 1, 2026, the average dual fuel household will see a reduction in their annual energy expenditure to £1,641, down from the previous cap set on January 1, 2026, which was £1,758.
Individual households can estimate their bill changes using their current energy bills and an interactive calculator.
The price cap determines the maximum permissible charges for unit rates and standing charges, meaning actual bills may vary above or below the cap amount.

The average gas unit rate is decreasing from 5.93p per kilowatt hour (kWh) to 5.74p per kWh, accompanied by a reduction in the standing charge from 35.09p per day to 29.09p.
Electricity costs are also set to decrease, with the average unit rate going from 27.69p per kWh to 24.67p per kWh. However, the standing charge will
