Police have provided an update on the conditions of individuals affected by a mass stabbing incident on a train in Huntingdon. Armed officers swiftly responded to the station in Cambridgeshire on Saturday evening, detaining two British men, aged 32 and 35, in connection with the assault on a train headed to London. Initially, nine individuals were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries.
As of today, two people are still in critical condition following the attack, according to Superintendent John Loveless of the British Transport Police. A total of 11 individuals received medical treatment after the knife attack, with 10 being transported to the hospital by emergency services and one seeking medical assistance independently. Several victims have since been discharged.
During a press briefing on Sunday morning, Superintendent Loveless disclosed that two individuals were apprehended on suspicion of attempted murder and are currently in custody. The suspects, a 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent, were swiftly arrested by armed police officers within eight minutes of the emergency call.
The detained individuals are being held in separate police facilities for interrogation, as authorities have confirmed that the incident is not related to terrorism. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood commended the courage of train staff and passengers, emphasizing that the attack does not have terrorist ties. Expressing sympathy for the victims and their families, she praised the rapid and professional response of the emergency services.
