When the famous pop artist Miley removed “Cyrus” from her social media handles earlier this week, it sparked speculation and discussions. Many wondered if this action was related to her relationship with her honorary godmother, Dolly Parton, or if there was a rift between her and her renowned father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Another theory suggested a connection with the release of her upcoming album.
To clarify the situation, Billy Ray Cyrus took to social media today to share a post addressing the confusion. He revealed, “I always called my little girl Miley. Just … Miley,” accompanied by a nostalgic picture of himself with his children in their younger years. Miley, originally named Destiny Hope Cyrus at birth, earned her nickname when her father noticed her constant smiling as a baby, leading him to affectionately call her “Smiley” and eventually shorten it to “Miley.”
During that period, Billy Ray Cyrus also introduced his daughter to country music legend Dolly Parton, whom he had befriended while touring as her opening act. He had asked Parton to be Miley’s godmother. Both Billy Ray and Miley have publicly expressed their sorrow over Parton’s recent passing.
Billy Ray Cyrus, who celebrated his 65th birthday on the day of Parton’s demise, emphasized the significance of family at this moment. He supported Miley’s decision to perform under a single name, stating, “I told @miley yesterday I felt good about her going with her first name. I mentioned Dolly and Cher. Thinkin’ about it more and more … Elvis … Prince … and so on. It’s a natural progression for an iconic superstar legend.”
The adjustment in Miley’s name does not indicate an official name change but rather a rebranding. Her upcoming tenth studio album, “Bass Persuades,” is scheduled for release on Sept. 18. Additionally, she has announced two live performances at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in October, expressing her excitement to take the stage in a city that holds a special place in her heart.
This new direction in Miley’s branding coincides with her evolving career and forthcoming music endeavors, marking a significant moment for the artist’s fans and followers.
