In the Cincinnati Open, Gabriela Dabrowski from Ottawa and Barbora Krejcikova from Czechia secured a victory in the women’s doubles tournament Round of 32. They defeated the fourth-seeded team comprising Spain’s Cristina Bucsa and American Nicole Melichar-Martinez with a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 after a competitive match lasting one hour and 33 minutes.

This tournament marks the first time Dabrowski and Krejcikova have teamed up. Their next challenge awaits them in the Round of 16 against the unseeded Czech pair of Linda Noskova and Marie Bouzkova scheduled for Tuesday.

On another court, Leylah Fernandez from Laval, Que., and her partner Sara Errani of Italy clinched a victory against Tamara Korpatsch of Germany and British player Emily Webley-Smith in a match lasting one hour and 29 minutes. Fernandez and Errani dominated the first set in 31 minutes, but faced a tough fight in the second set where their opponents took the lead at 6-5. However, Korpatsch and Webley-Smith couldn’t seal the win.

Fernandez and Errani showcased a strong performance with two aces, 23 winners, one double fault, and only nine unforced errors out of the total 34 in the match. They are set to compete against Chan Hao-ching of Taiwan and Maya Joint of Australia in the Round of 16.

Despite her success in doubles, Fernandez faced a defeat in the women’s singles event against Xiyu Wang of China in the second round on Sunday.
