Delaney Baie (DB) Pridham, the inaugural Golden Boot victor and Player of the Year in the Northern Super League (NSL), has prolonged her association with Rapid FC until the 2028 campaign. The 28-year-old has netted 28 goals in the NSL’s initial two seasons and has made numerous appearances for the Canadian national women’s team. Set to feature in this fall’s roster as Canada vies for a spot in the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, Pridham, hailing from Saratoga, Calif., is an alumna of Santa Clara University and has plied her trade with IBV in Iceland and Kristianstads DFF and Linköpings FC in Sweden. Nonetheless, she takes immense pride in representing Ottawa.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Pridham stated, “Being part of a robust club with our new proprietors unveiling their faith and vision for the club’s future truly excites me. I am genuinely content here. Ottawa is a splendid city, and our fan base is burgeoning admirably.” Rapid FC’s CEO, Thomas Gilbert, remarked that he was not caught off guard by her decision to stay with the club, having engaged in discussions with her since the previous year. Gilbert expressed confidence in Pridham’s dedication and drive, believing that a fair offer would prompt a dialogue with her.
Details regarding the contract extension were not disclosed. Pridham is not the sole Canadian talent to have migrated to Ottawa, as Carmelina Moscato, a former national team mainstay, is set to helm Ottawa as the head coach next season, replacing Katrine Pederson. Moscato’s coaching experience spans the U.S., Denmark, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. Her recruitment underscores the top-tier talent being attracted to the NSL, a testament to the league’s caliber, according to Gilbert.
While player movement in and out of the league is a constant consideration, both Gilbert and NSL president Christina Litz emphasize proactive measures to ensure player retention through favorable conditions and contract values. Pridham disclosed consulting with Moscato, a conversation that bolstered her decision to extend her stay at Ottawa FC. The NSL offers players a platform to garner playing time and valuable experience, crucial for those eyeing national team selection.
The NSL continues to draw top players such as Sabrina D’Angelo and Shelina Zadorsky at AFC Toronto, and Marie-Yasmine (Mimi) Alidou at Montreal Roses. Litz envisions the NSL as a top-five global league, with player choices like Pridham’s evidencing progress.
