Miyu Yamashita’s debut in Canada was a triumph as the 25-year-old Japanese golfer secured victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. This marked her fourth LPGA Tour win and second of the year, achieved through a dominant performance at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. She finished the tournament at 23 under par after shooting an impressive 4-under 66 in the final round, claiming a nine-stroke victory over runner-up Yuri Yoshida.
Expressing her joy at winning in Canada, Yamashita credited the supportive crowd for enhancing her enjoyment throughout the tournament. Her remarkable achievement tied the lowest all-time score on the LPGA Tour with a four-day total of 257. This also made her the fastest Japanese player to reach four LPGA wins.
In a notable performance, Vancouver’s Anna Huang finished as the top Canadian, tied for fourth place at 12 under par after posting a 5-under 65. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, the low amateur for the second consecutive year, finished tied for seventh at 11 under. Two-time champion Brooke Henderson, from Smiths Falls, Ontario, ended in a tie for 13th at 7 under par.
Huang, a 17-year-old who recently secured her fourth European Tour victory, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd and gain valuable experience. Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes secured their entry into the upcoming LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.
Despite a challenging performance, world No. 1 Nelly Korda finished the tournament at 1 under par. Henderson acknowledged her strong ball-striking but highlighted the need for improved putting to elevate her game in future events.
In a display of promising talent, Michelle Xing, an 18-year-old amateur, showcased her skills by finishing 3 under par. The CPKC Women’s Open in 2027 is set to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec.
