A golfer from Saskatchewan achieved his first-ever hole-in-one while competing at the National Special Olympics. Taylor Carter, a resident of Regina, has been part of the Special Olympics team since 2013 and started playing golf at the young age of four. Carter described the moment, which took place at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club, as unforgettable and emotional.

Carter expressed his disbelief, stating, “It’s still surreal. I still look out and think I didn’t even do it, but every time I watch the video it just makes me emotional.” Ashton Carter, Taylor’s nephew and caddy, shared in the excitement of the achievement.

During the competition, as they approached the 16th hole measuring 135 yards, the duo selected a nine-iron, and Taylor made the shot that led to the hole-in-one. Witnessing the shot, Ashton immediately knew it was a good one. Taylor’s family erupted with joy when his brother confirmed the hole-in-one.

The heartwarming moment was captured on video, showing Taylor embracing his best friend, Jason, who had traveled to support him. Taylor’s mom, Charlene, expressed her astonishment and joy at the achievement during a national event.

Despite the initial shock, Taylor remained focused to finish the round successfully. His determination paid off as he clinched the gold medal in his division by a narrow margin. Ashton described the experience as amazing, highlighting the confidence and camaraderie among the athletes.

Taylor, proudly wearing his medal, expressed gratitude to his supporters and hinted at potential future competitions. For now, he plans to practice, celebrate with loved ones, and relish the memorable victory.
