Pei Su, the founder of ACTAsia, expresses gratitude that no real fur trims were seen at London Fashion Week. Having witnessed the cruelty of fur farming firsthand, Pei Su is alarmed by the increasing promotion of real fur by celebrities and influencers, despite the positive step taken by London Fashion Week to go fur-free in 2023. Pei Su emphasizes the importance of understanding the ethical and environmental issues associated with the fur industry, highlighting the cruelty to animals, environmental impact, and global health risks posed by fur farming.
While the UK has banned fur farms, the import and sale of fur are still permitted, leading to continued support for the industry. Pei Su urges the public to support a bill in Parliament calling for a ban on fur imports and sales. ACTAsia’s efforts to raise awareness about the fur industry, particularly in China, have led to a decrease in the number of fur farms in the country. The organization has also collaborated with retailers worldwide to promote the Fur Free Retailers scheme.
Despite positive developments such as the ban on exotic animal skins at London Fashion Week and the fur-free status of New York Fashion Week, challenges remain as some major fashion events continue to showcase fur. Pei Su encourages individuals to make compassionate choices and resist the normalization of fur in fashion, to prevent setbacks in animal rights progress.
