A woman in North Carolina had a startling experience when a cat crashed through her car’s windshield after being dropped by a bald eagle while she was driving on US Route 74 in Swain County. The impact at 55mph caused significant damage to the vehicle, forcing her to stop and call emergency services.

During a 911 call, she recounted the unbelievable incident to operators, who confirmed her location and assured assistance from Highway Patrol. The driver mentioned a witness who was equally shocked by the cat falling from the sky. Unfortunately, the cat did not survive and was found by the road.

Despite the dramatic event, the woman escaped unharmed, as confirmed by Highway Patrol officials. Witnesses reported seeing the cat in a struggle with the bald eagle before the fall. While bald eagles typically prey on smaller animals like fish or birds, they may target cats under certain circumstances, such as when the cat appears vulnerable due to age, injury, or weakness.

In a similar incident in Metlakatla, Canada, a Yorkshire Terrier named CoCo narrowly avoided being snatched by a bald eagle in June 2022, managing to break free and sustain only minor injuries. This serves as a reminder of the unpredictable encounters that can occur between wildlife and domestic pets.
