A couple has been found guilty after orchestrating a deceptive scheme to target an estate agent who was later abducted and discovered deceased in an alleyway.

Akeem Wiggins and Elsa Segura were convicted of enticing Monique Baugh, 28, to a property in Minnesota for a viewing on December 31, 2019. Upon Baugh’s arrival, she was kidnapped by two individuals and transported in a U-haul.

Baugh was subsequently found lifeless in an alleyway, her hands bound with duct-tape, having been shot by her abductors who also attacked her boyfriend later on.

The boyfriend, who survived the attack, identified Wiggins as a potential threat. Wiggins’ 2021 conviction was overturned in 2024 due to erroneous jury instructions. Following a retrial, Wiggins has been convicted again on various charges including aiding and abetting murder and kidnapping.

Segura, who was in a relationship with Wiggins during the incident, pleaded guilty to kidnapping in 2024. Two additional defendants, Cedric Berry and Berry Davis, were convicted in 2021 for their involvement in the crimes.

Wiggins, Berry, and Davis were sentenced to life in prison without parole, while Segura received a 240-month jail term. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty commended the jury for their service and expressed sympathy towards Baugh’s family, emphasizing the importance of holding the defendants accountable for their actions.
